About Us
Founded in a small Glastonbury, CT garage in1973 by the late Tony Maurer, Maurer and Shepherd Joyners has grown from a one man shop to a nationally recognized and respected business. In 1976 Hap Shepherd, the current owner and operator, partnered with Mr. Maurer and the two moved the business into an old civil war era factory just down the road. For the past thirty-plus years Maurer and Shepherd Joyners Inc. has been producing high quality custom millwork.

From the beginning our focus has been historical preservation and quality craftsmanship. This focus has made us knowledgeable not only about the joinery techniques of the 17th, 18th and early 19th Centuries, but also about America’s architectural history.

Over the years Tony and Hap brought in additional craftsmen, but always kept the shop small and focused. To this day we are still located in the same building in Glastonbury, and we still take the same approach toward our work. Each person has his own project, and the job is seen all the way through by the same worker, from selecting the right lumber to the final swipe of the hand plane.

We have proudly built pieces for historical residences and commercial buildings on the National Register of Historic Places, where accuracy in every detail is of the utmost importance. However we take just as much pride in producing quality custom millwork for private residences throughout the country, overseas, and for your home.

Today our shop is still headed by Hap Shepherd. No longer working on the floor, Hap now does architectural design work and project research. He is the employer of ten shop workers, most of whom have over ten years at the company.
